Breakout Writing Groups:

Tuesdays – 1 to 3 pm – Write On! at the Benson Center for Active Aging, 1204 N Johnson St, Benson. Facilitator is NCWN member Barbara Crowley. Free.
Wednesdays – 3 to 4 pm – The Write Stuff, a memoir writing group, at the Clayton Center for Active Aging, 303 Dairy Rd, Clayton. Facilitator is Neuse River Writers president Char Vinar. Free.

Saturday, August 8 – 1 to 3 pm – An Afternoon with Dale Austin at the Johnston County Museum, 239 E Market St, Smithfield. Austin is a poet, and author of “Putting Salt on a Bird’s Tail: Stories, Memories & Southern Wisdom.”
Open Mic:
Saturday, August 8 – 3 to 5 pm – Neuse River Writers presents W I D E Open Mic at Strickland Art Gallery, 115 South Raiford St., Selma. Seize the mic! Tell our poems, stories, jokes, songs. Cindy Brookshire, emcee. Thank you hosts, William & Jim Strickland.
Workshop:
Thursday, August 20 – 5 to 7 pm – Session 8 of the year-long FREE Fiction Writers Group with John Neblett at the Public Library of Johnston County, 305 E Market St., in Smithfield, in the second floor Board Room. The group is using K.M. Weiland’s Structuring Your Novel book & workbook (available on Amazon) with the goal to produce a well-crafted novel by year’s end. neblettassoc@mindspring.com.
Critique Group:

Monthly Neuse River Writers Meeting & NCWN Meet Up:
NEW! August 22 – 10 am – noon - Neuse River Writers meets at its new day and time from now on, on the fourth Saturday of each month, at the Public Library of Johnston County (2ndfloor), 305 E. Market St., Smithfield. (Elevator accessible). The group’s Communications Director, Charles M. Clemmons will lead a presentation of “Getting Started in Moviemaking.” This continues to double as our monthly NCWN free meetup!
Carolina Overlook Book Fair:
